Blackberry ringing in the dead of night…

Take these broken fingers and learn to type...

Oh, I know that’s not exactly how the song goes, but I couldn’t think of another title for this post. Yes, I have a new Blackberry Storm.

It came this afternoon, and I’ll admit, when I took it out of the box, I was totally intimidated. The first thing I thought was…what the heck did I get myself into? Holy Crap…there are 50 pages in the “Getting Started” manual! It took me 10 minutes just to figure out how to open the case to put in the battery. I just kept thinking…thank goodness I have 30 days to decide whether to keep it or not.

Well, after I got my anxiety under control, I watched the on-line tutorial and started playing around with it a bit…and now I’m hooked. I love the touch screen and the brightly colored, extremely legible buttons and the way the screen changes from portrait to landscape and back depending upon how you hold it. It has 3 or 4 different ways to type, whatever you choose.

So far tonight, I’ve set up email, paired it with the Bluetooth in my car, taken some photos, used the browser, and set up separate alerts for the phone, email, and text messages…oh yeah I almost forgot, I made a few phone calls too. lol.

All this stuff is so amazing. It just makes me realize how many incredibly smart people there are in the world who can think these things up, much less design them.

I still need to get my contacts transferred from my old phone, and I’m sure there are a ton of things I don’t know about yet. But right now, I’m feeling a bit like a techno-nerd and it’s a good feeling. I’m already addicted…now I know why people call it a Crackberry!

  1. Congratulations on your new techno-toy, oh, I mean productive communications tool! For someone who makes her living in the high-tech world, I'm rather Luddite-like in my ways. When I got my new phone a couple of months ago, I forgot the MOST important thing - the font must be large enough for these old eyes to see the words! Now every time my phone rings, I must find my glasses in order to answer my phone.

  2. I think when my current cel phone contract is up I'm going to look in to a blackberry. They look so fun, but yes, intimidating.

Have fun with your new toy.

  3. Haven't heard that song in a long time!

When I quit working a few years ago, I tossed the cell phone. I was so tired of not being able to get in my car to leave work without someone calling, asking me silly questions, before I could even get buckled in. I finally caved and got a new one at the beginning of this year. And I have used it mostly to take pictures--very few phone calls and one single text message!

  4. Congrats on your new gadget. I would be dangerous with one of those. I bought a pedometer but can't figure out how to program it. HA!

BTW, Great post on your first husband's art. I was amused and terrified for you at the same time.

  6. How exciting! A new shiny toy! I'm turning into a techno-nerd, too. I got the new iPhone and am totally hooked! Of course, I don't get that many calls on it and very few messages! But I love that I can check email, listen to music, all that necessary stuff!
