Here Comes the Sun

Today is gorgeous. I can almost see my garden growing! My snap peas have already started sprouting, and although it is supposed to rain tomorrow, the forecast is for (some) sun over the next week. In the Pacific Northwest, we are ecstatic if the forecast just includes SOME sun.

Yesterday was cheat day, so last night we went to a new Thai restaurant with some friends. The food was really delicious, then last night before bed I had cake and ice cream (leftover cake from Easter, which we had put in the freezer). But then I had a horrible night. I'm finding is that I don't sleep very well after cheat day. I toss and turn, my stomach is queasy, and I have heart palpitations and hot flashes which I seldom do during the week. I'm sure this is related to the sugar, so I think I'm going to cut back, or at least don't have such a large amount so close to bedtime. I don't think my body knows what to do with that huge blast of sugar, especially since it gets NO sugar the rest of the week.

I recently watched a movie on Hulu called Fat Head, which is a rebuttal to the movie Super Size Me. As a person on a low-carb diet, I found Fat Head very enlightening. It is disturbing to look at how our government gets involved in so much of our daily lives, and often pushes products based on politics and agendas rather than science.

Well, I've just finished brunch (eggs, pinto beans, and some round steak), so now it's time to get outside and enjoy the sun while it lasts.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

  1. Oooh, just the opposite weather here. Rain, rain, wind and more rain. Never mind, I've got the fire going and the house is warm and cosy. Plus it's a good excuse for staying in and reading blogs!

  2. We sat on the back deck and just basked in the sunshine this afternoon. First time this year! Of course that was after hours of yard work. Those cheat days are sounding like more trouble than they are worth! Maybe you could eat your dessert for breakfast on cheat day and see how that goes. Then you would probably just feel crappy all day, so don't follow that poor advice.

  3. I made the change to end consumption of all sweet things by 3pm on cheat days. The sugar makes my residual MS issues (limping, clumsiness, blurring vision etc) flair up the day after. Since that day is Sunday and I don't have to work it's the perfect day for it if a flair-up has to happen. And I'm right as rain again by Monday morning. Do you find that your body recovers from the sugar high by Monday too?

I've been modifying that cheat day bit by bit, last week the whole cheat day ended at 3pm and I had a low carb meal for dinner. This week I'm contemplating doing the same but containing the cheat to only lunch.

  4. Love that "yesterday was cheat day" and then you spend all night in bed sick. I think that's really the stuff you're not supposed to be eating. But Thai is not resistible for me either. I'd be eating it!

I agree with your comment on "disturbing" about govt and politics. With the big lobbies being corn and oil, and the money those guys give to politicians, we hardly stand a chance. Seems like those companies will do anything to get their products into all our foods and other items.

  5. Gonna have to check out that movie. It never ceases to amaze me how much the govt is involved in our lives. It has always been about the all mighty dollar.

Hope next cheat day is better. You need to find out what you can eat that won't bother you on cheat day.

    Hope the sunshine was awesome
